High Tor (Shady) was born 5/9/91 in NY Sate, descended from War Admiral. A racing injury ended her brief racing career but she was carefully rehabilitated and retrained to hunter equitation at If Only Farm where I was taking lessons as a returning adult rider aged 43. I first saw her as a 4-year old and admired her from afar. I thought, if only I could have a horse like that! There was something special about this pretty, 15.2h grey mare
… you could see her thinking and trying to figure it out. I had only just returned to riding as an adult and was still taking lessons, far from owning my own horse. So Shady spent a few years on the local hunter circuit with a junior rider, but when her owner went off to school Shady came up for sale — a bargain because of the metal screw in her left knee. We’ve been together since February, 2000. We just enjoy hacking on the flat in a bitless bridle, pretending to do dressage. What a wonderful mare — smart, curious, self-restrained, impeccable manners, and a joy to be around. At 18, she is sound and she looks and feels great! I am so lucky to have her and hope to be with her for years to come.
